Rushes consist of obstacles that strike at regular intervals. The player must rush past during the lull period to avoid being hit. This only requires a short burst of velocity, but it still serves to emphasise the value of Sonic’s speed.

Rushes in the modern games

Rushes were present in Sonic Adventure.
modern_good.png The occurrences in Red Mountain developed the concept by placing a switch in the path of the obstacle.
Hence, the player had to not only rush past to avoid the danger, but also had to be take care to press the switch.

Sonic Advenutre enhanced the concept of rushes.

In later modern games, rushes have been virtually phased out.
